Permits and waste compliance

Three services, three starting points

A new activity, a change to the site or a question about your current records each needs a different starting point. The three services below cover those.

A permitted waste site
01

Permit applications and variations

Support with preparing the application or variation and assembling the information it needs.

  • Establish which route and requirements apply to the activity
  • Assemble the supporting information the application needs
  • Submission support and regulator correspondence

Points to work through

Start with the activity and the current position, then establish the work needed for the proposed application or variation. Identify the site information, management arrangements, plans and supporting records available. Record the information still required and who will provide it.

Agree at scoping: a prepared application or variation with its supporting information assembled.

02

Ongoing compliance

A review of the current arrangements against what the permit and the activity actually require.

  • Review the permit, records and correspondence as they stand
  • Set out the gaps found in the review
  • Agree a defined scope of work to address them

Points to work through

Read the current permit, site records and correspondence together. Identify the requirement being considered, the supporting evidence available and any gap needing further information. Distinguish missing documents from questions about the activity itself.

Use the findings to agree the next work items, their owners and the records needed to show how each item has been addressed.

Agree the findings to be recorded and the scope for addressing them.

Questions we get asked

Where does a compliance review start?

With the site's activity, current permit or registration, records and correspondence. Any gaps in that information form part of the review.

What should I have ready before we talk?

A description of the activity, the current permit or registration references, and any recent regulator correspondence. Gaps are fine; identifying them is part of the review.

Can you deal with the regulator on our behalf?

Yes. Representation to regulators and official bodies, including submissions and correspondence, can be included in the agreed scope. We agree who is authorised to communicate and how the record is kept before that work begins. Legal representation remains a matter for your solicitor.

We already use an environmental consultant. Does that conflict?

Explain what is already covered and which part needs further support. The scope can then identify the proposed work and its interface with existing appointments.

Some of our historic records are missing. Is that a problem for a review?

Identify which records are missing and the periods or activities they relate to. The review can establish the information available, the unanswered questions and the work to discuss next.
