Readiness checklist

Are you ready for digital waste tracking?

A free self-audit checklist for waste sites, carriers, brokers and dealers. Permitted and licensed receiving sites in England and Wales have recorded every load in the Digital Waste Tracking Service since 1 October 2026; the checklist shows where your own records stand.

What the checklist covers

  1. Where your current waste records will and won’t meet the digital tracking standard
  2. What “digital” actually needs to mean for your paperwork, systems and duty of care
  3. The gaps that turn into a rejected load or a stalled site
  4. What to fix first, in plain order of priority

The carrier trap

Your own recording duty is planned for October 2027 and is not yet in statute. In practice that does not help you.

Receiving sites in England and Wales have recorded every load since 1 October 2026; Scotland and Northern Ireland follow from 1 January 2027. Full dates and rules.

The sites you tip at in England and Wales have had to record your load since 1 October 2026, and they need enough correct information to do it: your registration live and matching what the Environment Agency holds, the right waste code and description, weights, vehicle registration. Get any of it wrong and the load can be paused or refused at the gate. Your working deadline is the one the site already has.
