What the package covers

A clear package starts with the work itself, the programme and a plain record of who is responsible for each part.

01

Demolition, clearance and enabling

Packages that take a site from its current condition to one ready for the next stage of work.

  • Demolition and site clearance within the agreed package
  • Enabling works coordinated with the wider programme
  • Interfaces with adjoining work identified during scoping

Points to work through

Define the condition the site needs to reach for the next stage.

Note what is to be removed, retained or protected, which service information is available and the access the following work will need. Bring known constraints into the scope early, including adjoining activity and areas that must stay operational. The appointment can then identify the enabling work and its handover boundary.

Agree at scoping: an enabling scope with a defined end condition and recorded handover point.

02

Civil engineering packages

Specialist delivery partners assembled around the project requirements and managed as one package.

  • Specialist partners selected for the agreed scope
  • One point of coordination for programme and queries
  • Responsibilities recorded in the appointment before work starts

Points to work through

Assembling specialist partners is a definition job before it is a procurement job.

Each element of the works is matched to a partner selected for that scope, with its interfaces, sequence and responsibilities recorded in the appointment. During delivery there is one coordination route: queries, programme movement and change proposals come through the package rather than passing between trades, so the record of who decided what stays in one place.

Agree at scoping: a coordinated package with recorded responsibilities and one decision route.

03

Prefabricated and systemised installation

Installation of prefabricated and systemised infrastructure within the agreed package boundary.

  • Installation planned against the enabling and groundworks sequence
  • Installation requirements identified when the package is agreed
  • Completion recorded against the agreed scope

Points to work through

Set the installation requirements alongside the enabling and groundworks programme.

Bring the designer's and manufacturer's information, component details and any known access or handling constraints into the discussion. Identify which preceding works need to be ready and which checks belong to each party. The agreed package should state the installation boundary and the completion evidence required.

Agree at scoping: an installed package with completion recorded against the appointment.

Questions about the service

What does one managed package mean, and how do we know it fits?

A defined customer package, with agreed responsibilities and a clear coordination route for the work included in the appointment. We review whether the scope, appointment and risk allocation support that before any commitment.

At what stage should we get in touch?

Start while the scope and programme are being shaped, or bring a package that is ready to tender. Include the project stage in the enquiry.

What happens if the scope changes part-way through?

Changes go through the route agreed in the appointment: raised, priced, approved and recorded before they are acted on. The package boundary moves only by agreement, and the record shows when and why it moved.

Can the package sit alongside our existing contractor or design team?

Yes, where the boundaries can be drawn cleanly. The scoping stage establishes where the package starts and stops against the existing appointments and how the interfaces between them will be managed.

What do we need to have ready, and what do you develop?

Bring what exists, including gaps. Establishing the missing information, defining the package and setting out the appointment are part of the work; you are not expected to arrive with a finished scope.
